Seiko Divers Watch - Quality Time Pieces for an Aquatic Adventure

By Ed J Price

Dive watches are made to endure almost any given situation of the deep. Specially engineered time pieces are required for dives up to 900+ feet to endure the high pressures present. Many solutions have been come up with by several manufacturers to counteract this problem. In spite of this, one watch that has stood out from the rest is the Seiko dive watch. Seiko was formed in 1881 with only a single shopkeeper, since then Seiko has become synonymous with high quality watches.

Seiko Kinetic Divers Watch

Seiko produces everything from the oil and face decor to the gears and watch casing, all in which benefits the company tremendously. In 1986, the Kinetic Watch line was developed by Seiko. The theory of the operation was to power the watch using the natural movements of the wearer. One specific mechanism used to make it possible is an in-built pendulum that rotates with walking. As it rotates, it spins a pinion gear upwards of approximately a hundred thousand RPM which in turn charges the battery that powers the watch.

The watch is a combination of a stainless steel body construction with special seals and gaskets that withstand the conditions and pressures present at diving depths. The watches can weigh from anything upwards of half a pound but are able to survive depths of 900 feet.

Dive Watch Technology

Numerous elements are to be considered in dive watches. Such as the crystal dial covering, the dials, and the strap. The external elements should also be taken into account such as the crown and so on. Legibility is also vital as light conditions worsen once the diver reaches any real depth. The watch is required to have the ability to endure the differing atmospheric conditions including helium environments and so on.

Once the basic elements are met, the style and appearance of the watch is all that matters. Seiko has been at the forefront of new technologies and designs and is the pioneer for some of the latest technologies for watches. Some of their best watches come under the Seiko Professional Diver Collection. These watches can endure at least 200 meters and saturation diving. Seikos specially made gaskets are featured in these watches. One of the originators of the line is the Seiko Marine Master.

The Marine Master

The Seiko Marine Master features the ability to endure up to 300 meters below the surface and is equipped with a rubber strap which reduces the weight. It also contains Lumibrite features that enable visibility in low light levels. The crystal which protects the watch face is made of Hardlex material and also has an anti reflective coating. The crown of the watch can be tightened for a secure seal, ensuring the watch is able to resist against high pressures. The watch is well liked overall with favourable reviews. Its timing and precision is spot on and reliable.

Seiko Black Monster

The Seiko Black Monster is considered to be the best dive watch by many divers. With its many timeless features that have stood the test of time, this dive watch is perfect for any diver. - 16955
