Build a Tiki Bar

By Rob lyle

A sun and sand vacation can be had every day if you build a tiki bar in your back yard. Having a Tiki Bar in your home is a great way to bring summer back, even in the middle of winter.

Buying a tiki bar is likely to set you back a couple of thousand dollars. Eek the tropical feel comes with a hefty price tag! The good news is that you can build a tiki bar for a fraction of the price and do a good job of it too.

A search of the Internet will bring up many different plans that can be purchased online. Decide if you want to have your tiki bar just for a one off event or if you want it as more of a permanent fixture in your home.

What is most economical and pleasing to your mates is to opt for a permanent tiki bar and to build one accordingly you will need quality tiki bar plans that are precise in instructions and dimensions for a porfessional finish.

For a short term tiki bar you will need a strong table for the base, around the base of the table tack on straw, split bamboo or wooden slats, bamboo looks the best, but if it is not available then improvise with the others.

Straw, bamboo and plywood can be purchased at pool stores, nurseries or building yards. You will need plywood for the base of the roof. Straw can also be strewn around the bar for a more authentic look.

Straw for the tiki bar can be found at pool stores, bamboo is found at nurseries as is plywood which is good for the roof of your tiki bar. Throw straw around the base for that tropical feel.

After the plywood cover the roof with straw thatch or nick some palm fronds from the neighbors palm tree. First build the roof on the ground then hook it up to the top fo the bar. Now you can decorate, add shells, tropical flowers, tiki statues and anything tropical.

Go crazy adding shells, coconuts, tribal masks, tiki statues, frangipanis, and hibiscus: or whatever tropical decoration your heart desires. Buy a few small potted palms from the local nursey to place by the tiki bar.

To christen your brand new tiki bar have a bbq or Hawaii party and invite all of your friends and the neighbors. Get tropical cocktail recipes off the net and and grab two blenders. For the non drinkers make a large non alchoholic tropical punch, it will go down well. - 16955
