Flights to Geneva

Getting to Geneva from the UK on a budget is easiest during the winter holiday season. Many of the budget airlines only offer flights from regional UK airports during winter or they cut their number of flights during spring and summer. Flybe, BMI, and Jet2 are three such budget airlines. Always check availability before purchasing a flight on one of these carriers. If you wish to visit Geneva outside the winter season, British Airways, Easyjet and Swiss offer daily or weekly flights from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton or London City airports.

The Geneva Cointrin International Airport, GVA, is only 5 kilometers north of Geneva. Choose from public busses, hotel shuttles or train service to get you to the city. From Cornavin Railroad Station, you can make connections to locations throughout Europe. You may also choose to hire a car. Because Geneva is the main arrival point for skiers to the French and Swiss Alps, the airport is divided into two sections, so travelers can exit either the French or Swiss side

Although some hotel and flight services are unavailable, for the best rates and prices, the seasons of April to June and September to November are good times to look into before making a decision.

Peak seasons in July and August gives the greatest weather and largest crowds. Swiss National Day falls on the 1st of August and starts two weeks of festive events. Tourism peaks once again around the winter solstice and New Years.

Walking tours of the city center are an excellent way of seeing the main tourist spots as well as some lesser known attractions. The tours are categorized according to attractions, so you can choose a tour based on art and architecture, historical tales and legends or the citys water features

Place Nueve is the cultural hub of Geneva and is a great place to enter the Old Town. Here you will find the Grand Theatre and the Conservatory of Music and Rath Museum offering great architecture.

Chocolate and the Swiss Army Knife are only two examples of the many things that Switzerland is famous for; Both of which are very popular gifts.

Geneva is world renowned for its time pieces. In the Jardin Anglais an unusual clock that keeps perfect time is planted entirely of flowers. There is an enormous solar laser clock located in Geneva too.

The town of Lausanna, which is close to Geneva, is an interesting, vibrant city which has boasting and stunning Swiss architecture.

Geneva offers a range of museums including the cutting-edge Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Barbier-Mueller Musseum of artworks and artifacts from civilizations around the world, the Museum of Art and History, and the Patek Phillippe Museum of timepieces from the 16th to 18th centuries.

Lake Geneva is the largest lake in central Europe shared by Switzerland and France. Visitors are drawn to the lake by its quaint chalet villages, alpine panorama and vineyard-covered slopes. Scenic roads stretch along the shore or you can hop on a train to take in the views. Another great stop is the Jet dEau, the largest fountain in the world, projecting 140 meters into the air at 200 kilometers per hour. It is a top romantic spot at night when the fountain is lit up. - 16955
