Retro Football Shirts are becoming the new rage is sportswear

By Jay Wayne

What is this obsession with wearing retro football shirts for all of our favorite teams? It is quite ironic that the same colors and styles that fans complained about 20 years ago are now adorned across all their backs. In actuality, is sheer marketing genius on behalf of the teams that has created this new rage.

Most true fans of the team have one or more jerseys or shirts in their closet featuring the team's logo. When times are good, you may be out of the store every other week buying a new shirt. When times are bad and the players stink, he usually stick with what you have and wait for the times to change. Teams depend on that income and when it's not coming in they have to get away to change the fans opinions. Retro football shirts do exactly that.

When you think about it, this is incredible marketing on the part of the football league. For there end, they usually require that any team trying to sell a different version of their current shirt or jersey must wear a retro style for at least one game during the course of the year. Again, this creates the craze for both good and bad teams, generating income regardless of how well the team is performing.

The other market that this taps into is the older fan that hasn't purchased a shirt in quite some time. Typically, when a team issues a retro styled shirt, they not only feature current players, but also the players of that era.

If you are alive and well when the style of retro jersey that is now being featured was the current style of your team and your old shirt is tattered and worn, you are more likely to go out and buy the new retro style shirt cities still have a great looking item of your favorite old-time player.

Current fans are also able to get in touch with the past by wearing a retro football shirt. While these retro football shirts will obviously have the name of the current players wearing them, teams usually re-issue them with the names of the rosters that were in place when he shirts were actually worn. You're now able to claim loyalty to a franchise for many years and solidify yourself as a true fan.

It is common nowadays for teams to not only feature one era of prior years, but they will often wear football shirts of several different generations. In one season you may be treated to a retro football shirt of three different eras of players. These teams generate interest in their current team by reliving their past glories.

It is easy to figure out why people now have to make more and more room in their closets. This craze is something it is very easy to get caught up in. You never know when you're going to have the opportunity to get a shirt of these great players again, so you take advantage of it while you can. If your team is struggling, you may get one of the shirts to remind you of why you became a fan in the first place and if you team is dominating, you can prove that they have been on top forever with the name of one of the greats on your back. - 16955
