Branding Your Website Branding before Web Design

By Matthew Henage

Brand Confusion

If you are like most of the general public, you don't know what branding is. If you think that branding is about having a recognizable business name, your in error. If you think your business is too little to brand, your wrong again. A brand is more about the image your audience has of your business, not about the size or success of your company. The idea behind branding is to get your audience to have a perception of your business that motivates them to a sale.

Your Definition of Branding

To make things simple, branding is making your business image communicate preplanned characteristics. Meaning, giving evidence to your customer audience about who you are and what you stand for. If your company image attracts more sales for you business, you have a good brand, but if your company image repels your customers you have a bad brand.

Your Brand is Important

The brand image you portray can leave either a good or bad taste in your audience's mouth about your company. By not taking the time to establish a well conceived brand for your business, you are opening up your audiences judgment of your business to chance. If you are in the business of leaving things up to chance, then go ahead and ignore branding; but if you like the idea of being able to influence your audience's feelings and thoughts towards your business, then an in depth understanding of branding is crucial.

Implementing your Brand to Your Web Presence

Your brand will only be as strong as its consistency. This means that you can't send mixed signals about your brand image, everything about you business must agree with itself. This not only includes what is on your website, but all other interaction with your customers offline as well. The more consistent you are, the more your audience will trust you. The more your audience trusts you the more likely they will be to make a sale.

There are so many advantages that the Internet has that brings many companies online. One of the biggest hurdles businesses face online is building trust with their audience. With no real human interaction on the Internet, it becomes just so much more important that your Brand is portrayed through your website. Branding your website will not only build trust with your customers, but will help them better identify your business. - 16955
