What to look for in a Home Based Business

By Hayley Weatherburn

There are so many home based businesses out there, it is hard to know what's right for you, what is going to work and what will actually achieve what you set out for in the first place. Did you know that according to U.S Department of Labor, the number one employer in 2010 will be "Self". Home based businesses are the way of the future. To help you find the right one for you the following article illustrates 5 points to keep in mind:

1. Legitimate - I know this may seem like an obvious thing, but with the internet being almost limitless some of the home based businesses out there are actually a bit dodgy! So make sure you do your research. Find government websites that actually can confirm that the businesses are legitimate.

2. It achieves your goal - keep in mind your life goals, think about what you want out of life and write the main points down. Then when choosing a home based business, make sure that you don't get caught up in the hype, and that it has the potential to achieve those life goals

3. Costs to start - Home based businesses generally speaking are relatively cheaper than say buying a franchise, however there are some out there that have hidden ongoing costs, KPI's that need to be kept up before making money each month and some that actually may need a reasonable amount of capital to begin. Keep your eye out, as there are home based businesses that only require a small start up fee and allow you to start profiting within a month.

4. Day to Day tasks - Ask why you want to do a home based business and check that it achieves that. This may sound similar to the second point; however what I mean here - is while you are working a business from home, what are the main reasons you picked a home based business rather than a job or business away from home. Was it to have more time with kids, so you didn't need to pay for day care, or the potential income? These things are important to note, and keep in mind when choosing your home based business.

5. Passionate about your business - Most people that are successful don't find their job a chore as they are genuinely interested in the business or product. As home based businesses can pretty much be in any industry it is important to find one you are interested in and can learn to love. If you find you are convincing yourself about the business or product - move on. You will find one that you can become passionate about, even if it takes a bit of researching.

Actually sit down and write these five points down as check lists. Write down your 3-4 life goals, what your ideal daily activities would entail what industries you are interested in and how much money you are prepared to pay. Once this has been established, start researching home based businesses and check them off with your list. When you have found your match made in heaven, commit yourself, be determined to succeed and don't forget to have fun. Good Luck! - 16955
