Singers:Do You Want to Extend Your Voice Range?

By Elizabeth Schohl

Most singers has a range where they feel best singing. If a singer attempts to sing a high pitch, most of the time the voice does not have that rich sound quality because it changes to a falsetto. Sing pitches as high as you hum as this will present a more realistic view of how high you can actually sing without falsetto.

Only your favorite singer can sound exactly like themselves as no one can copy their trademark sound exactly. Keep in mind that you can practice and spend time to sound like them or get the same range, but your own voice is your sound. Learn how to work with your voice and cultivate your distinctive sound which people will learn to know.

Keep in mind that if you must extend your voice range, you need to get some practice time at a regular basis. Most people don't like to practice much, but they want to sound good right away without the hard work that it takes. Many expert singers take the time to work on their voice so that you know that they are much better than others.

You can stretch your vocal range by practicing how to speak with an awareness that your are changing your voice with each word. Most people find that when they are upset or excited their voice gets very high and thin pitched, and when they experience a cold the voice has a much lower sound than normal. Well, you can practice the same technique with your voice by expanding the range of pitches.

If you read a children's story with a lot of dramatic expression, you can experiment and stretch the limits of of your voice more than you can singing. When you get excited your voice will raise, but don't go out of your range when you do this. Your vocal cords will "remember" how far it can reach a higher range before it turns into falsetto.

Teach your vocal cords to relax when you want to go higher so they will comfortably reach that range. Talking and expressing yourself is the best way to teach your vocal cords what you want them to do. After that you will be able to sing higher without straining your voice.

Don't attempt to make your voice singer higher or lower than it can really go, as it may precipitate harm to your voice. The use of bad habits such as repeated abuse of the vocal cords will prevent the vocal cords from healing. Singers cannot afford to weaken their voice as they need their voices for speaking as well as singing.

If you practice properly you'll find that your vocal cords will begin to react to your requests. You'll hear a difference when you try to hit the higher notes which aren't really that high. Your vocal cords have adjusted to being loosened to allow you comfortably reach those higher notes. - 16955
